A 4th of July to Remember
For generations, Americans have come together to celebrate the birth of our nation and commemorate the establishment of this great experiment we call a Democratic Republic. We celebrate not only the declaration of our freedom from England, but, more importantly, what that great declaration promised each one of us.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
From this foundation of shared values sprang our American exceptionalism, preserved through the countless lives given defending these values. These lives were laid down by our forefathers, our grandparents, our parents and, for some of us, our children.
Traditionally, families, friends and neighbors gather together eager for the day’s festivities. The sound of laughter, smells wafting from grills cooking every possible type of cuisine, crashing waves and kissing grandmas have marked the holiday for many of us. The tradition is respected by us all, loved by us all.
2020 is the year, it seems, that broke America.
Or did it?
In these unprecedented times, I have learned just how precious and fragile American freedom really is; how quickly everything can all come crashing down if we don’t stand vigilant. Our freedoms and the future health and vitality of our city will be decided in November’s election in a way that has never been seen before here in Carlsbad. It is incumbent on us all to preserve the quality of life here in this city we have all come to love.
In November, I humbly ask for your vote. As your candidate for City Council District 4, I will always do what is best for the families of Carlsbad, because healthy families build strong communities. Today we may not be able to celebrate as we traditionally do, but in this year, in this time, it is more important than ever to remember the foundation upon which our nation was built. Next year, together, we can all look forward to a great big celebration of our freedom and the exceptionalism of this great nation.
