Carlsbad has always been a place where families thrive. We enjoy the benefits of top-rated schools, economic opportunity, and responsibly funded police and fire departments. Because of this, Carlsbad has continued to inspire generations of civic-minded leaders. I believe through responsible government, commitment to thoughtful stewardship of our local environmental resources, and investment in the vitality of our locally owned businesses we can continue to nurture the health and wellness of our City. I am running for the city council district 4 seat here in South Carlsbad because healthy families build strong communities.
My love for Carlsbad began more than 40 years when I moved to this town of 33,000 to work for a family of local newspapers, including the Carlsbad Journal. Like so many others, I was attracted by the perfect weather, beautiful beaches and plentiful places to run, ride bikes and hike. When I married Kathy, we knew we wanted to raise our family in a community that provided good schools, lots of sunshine and fresh air for our kids to grow. We bought our home in South Carlsbad in 1996. We spent most of our weekend days at local parks where I coached my children’s softball, baseball, and soccer teams.
After my newspaper career I worked in government affairs in the cable TV industry, where I negotiated cable franchises with cities in North County and throughout Southern California. I then spent nearly a decade as a small brick and mortar business owner in Carlsbad. I served as Chairman of the Board of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, so understand the importance of a business-friendly city council.
In my free time, I continue to demonstrate my gratitude of our community lifestyle by volunteering for several organizations, including the Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club and my church, St. Elizabeth Seton. My past service includes serving as president of the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad, La Costa Youth Organization, and Carlsbad Christmas Bureau. In 2015 I was named Carlsbad’s Citizen of the Year.
Over the years I have enjoyed to opportunity to learn and participate in almost every facet of Carlsbad life giving me the unique combination of proven leadership and deep understanding of the community in South Carlsbad. As your next city council member for district 4, I pledge to preserve the quality of life that makes Carlsbad a city where families thrive.
